Performance Zero: 535.50

I was eighteen when my dad left. With my mother having lost her job and my siblings too young to help financially, I took the mantle of provider in my household. I took up a job and worked my ass off in order to be able to keep my family afloat. My entire environment changed around me. I could no longer avoid the realities of life, nor pretend I could be a child anymore with childhood's preoccupations and worries.

535.50 is the amount of money we needed to have in order to pay for our maintenance and subsequently not be evicted.

This was filmed in front of my family.

The Materials I used included swords I made out of plastic, tape, and wood. Symbols of adulthood made for children. I also used blue gift-filling paper, a chair, and wooden sticks. The Mat I am sitting on is an assemblage of different video-game and film advertisements and products, made with paper and packaging tape.

The Environment I chose is my house. It is fitting for it to be the setting I performed my piece due to it having been a place that was affected by the events that inspired this piece's conception.
